Who's Really Guiding You?
Monday, April 28, 2025
Fear, at its essence, is a natural emotional response to perceived danger or threat. It arises from our survival instincts, preparing us to protect ourselves through the well-known "fight, flight, or freeze" response. However, fear can also stem from the ego or subconscious mind, manifesting as fears of failure, rejection, or change. This type of fear is deeply tied to our sense of identity, shaped by thoughts, beliefs, and past experiences. It can manifest irrationally or disproportionately, leading to anxiety or hesitation that may hold us back from realising our potential.
Intuition, by contrast, is the voice of your higher self, a deep connection to your inner truth Unlike fear, which reacts to the ego’s concerns, intuition operates on a deeper, more connected level, leading us toward growth opportunities and alignment with our highest and true path.
So how do we know who is guiding you? Is it the ego’s voice, protective yet insecure, holding tight to what defines you? Or is it your soul, expansive and assuring, urging you to trust, to surrender, to remember who you already are?
The key lies in the feeling…
When intuition speaks, there’s a sense of calm clarity. It doesn’t bombard you with endless “what ifs” or mental chatter. Instead, it offers a steady, unwavering sense of knowing—even if it’s asking you to take a leap of faith.
Fear, on the other hand, is chaotic and overpowering. It stirs up frantic energy, scattering your thoughts in every direction, clouded by doubt, judgment, and relentless questioning.
Ask Yourself:
- Does this feel grounded and clear (intuition)?
- Or am I overwhelmed by racing thoughts and doubts (fear)?
Trust in the voice that feels grounding, even if it asks you to leap.
Intuition doesn't need a list of reasons or an explanation. It simply knows. It gives a clear, internal sense of what feels right or wrong in each situation, often guiding decisions with statements rather than questions; statements that feel like ‘truths’.
Fear, however, thrives on uncertainty. It bombards you with questions, needing explanations and guarantees before it feels safe. It spins stories, highlighting potential dangers and consequences, keeping you stuck in a loop of over-analysis and second guessing.
Think of it this way:
- Fear asks questions, "What if this is the wrong move?" – it’s unsure of the answer.
- Whereas intuition affirms, "This is right for me," or "This isn’t." – it’s clear of what feels right.
When you follow your intuition, you feel open, expansive, and aligned. It fosters trust and ease, gently guiding you toward growth and possibility—even when the path ahead isn’t entirely clear.
Fear, on the other hand, has the opposite effect. It narrows your perspective, clings to the familiar, and shrinks your sense of what’s possible. While fear’s intention is to protect, it often holds you back, keeping you small and confined within the bounds of the ego. In doing so, it keeps you far from anything expansive.
Trust the voice that expands your world—not the one that holds you back.
Fear is generated by the mind, whereas intuition, by contrast, lives deeper—in the body and heart.
- Intuition often feels physical and somatic. You might experience sensations like a wave of peace, a sense of unease, a pull or resistance, a gentle nudge or hunch, or a deep-seated knowing. These sensations often feel grounded and rooted in trust.
- Fear in contrast can feel constrictive in your body. You may notice tightness, muscle tension, or knots in your stomach. Fear is often felt as a depletion of your energy, leaving you exhausted or on edge.
Fear isn’t your enemy—it’s a protector, designed to keep you safe, even if it means keeping you small. It’s the part of you that loves you enough to worry, though it doesn’t always know how to love you best, because it does so from a narrow and cautions point of view, unable to see the whole picture.
Intuition, on the other hand, operates from a broader, more expansive viewpoint. It recognises your full potential and guides you toward it with trust, even when the path ahead feels uncertain or challenging.
To conclude
These inner guides are not enemies—they are both essential parts of you, working together to guide your path. Fear seeks to protect you, keeping you cautious. Intuition, however, invites you to grow, encouraging you become all that you can be.
The goal is not to silence fear entirely but to learn to walk beside it—as a companion, not a captor. Similarly, intuition isn’t a contradiction to rational thought but a complement to it—an opportunity for the mind and heart to align when logic alone can’t offer the answers, peace or fulfillment you seek.
And it’s natural to feel both at the same time. You may feel fear gnawing at you, worried about the risks, the unknowns, the vulnerabilities of taking a step forward, and simultaneously feel intuition reminding you of the discovery and freedom waiting on the other side.
So let fear remind you of the risks, but at the same time be open to intuitive guidance on you how to rise above them.
Ask yourself - who is guiding you today? And more importantly, what are they teaching you?
Trust yourself. After all, you already know the answers.
When faced with a decision, take a moment to pause and reflect.
- Am I searching for answers, or do I already know deep down?
- Is this a nudge from intuition, offering clarity, or fear, seeking certainty?
- Does the thought feel expansive and empowering, or restrictive and confining?
